Volunteer-run dog & cat rescue · Maple Glen · Est. 2011

Every kennel is a waiting room.

Homeward keeps its animals in foster living rooms, not concrete runs. Around forty dogs and cats are waiting across town, learning couches, stairs, and their new names. One of them matches yours.

Adoptable now

Six of the forty.

This wall changes weekly. When someone goes home, the next face goes up within a day.

Biscuit, a scruffy terrier mix

Biscuit 3 yrs · terrier mix

Ringleader energy. Supervises your cooking from a respectful distance, then invoices you in tail wags.

Meet Biscuit
Marmalade, a green-eyed tabby cat

Marmalade 2 yrs · tabby

Chirps instead of meowing. Grants lap access by appointment, then forgets to end the appointment.

Meet Marmalade
Duke, a gray-muzzled senior Labrador

Duke 9 yrs · lab

Gray muzzle, gold manners. Better behaved than anyone at your last dinner party.

Pickle 1 yr · beagle mix

Found the food shelf on day one. A problem solver. The food shelf now has a latch.

Wren 4 yrs · tortie

Spent two weeks under a bed and came out a poet. Wants a quiet home with a sunny sill.

Tank 5 yrs · couch potato

The name is ironic. Afraid of the vacuum and one garden gnome. Loves everyone he has ever met.

How adoption works

Four steps. No hoops.

Apply

Ten minutes by email, read the same week. No, you do not need a fenced yard. You need a plan.

Meet

At the Saturday meet and greet, or in the foster home. Bring the kids and your current dog. Everyone votes.

Home visit

A short walk-through, usually the same week. We are checking fit, not furniture. Apartment people do great here.

Gotcha day

Sign, pay the fee, and go home with a starter bag, the vet records, and our phone number forever.

  • Dogs$250
  • Puppies, under one year$325
  • Cats$150
  • Seniors, eight and up$75
  • Bonded pairssecond fee halved

What the fee covers

Every animal goes home vaccinated, spayed or neutered, microchipped, and seen by our vet at least twice. The fee covers roughly half of that. Donations cover the rest, so nobody profits and nobody haggles.

If the fee is the only thing between a senior pet and a good home, write to us. We would rather talk than let Duke wait.

Foster

Every foster home opens a kennel.

We have no building full of runs. Our capacity is exactly the number of spare rooms and forgiving couches people lend us. Foster one animal and we can say yes to the next intake call.

What it involves

A dog: two walks, meals, and a couch. A cat: a quiet room and patience. Your photos and honest notes are how we match adopters.

What we cover

All vet care, food, a crate, a litter box, and a 24-hour line to people who have seen everything. Your only cost is electricity for the heating pad.

The two-week trial

Try one two-week stay. If it is not for you, we come get them, no questions asked, and thank you anyway. Most people ask for a second.

Ask about fostering

Fair warning: about a third of our foster homes adopt their first placement. We count every one as a win.

The wishlist

Small things that keep this running.

  • Towels and fleece blankets. No comforters, they eat them.
  • Kitten formula and bottles, March through September.
  • Gas cards for the transport drivers.
  • Sturdy leashes and martingale collars, all sizes.
  • Canned kitten and puppy food, unopened.
  • Forever stamps for adoption follow-up letters.

Drop-off

The porch bin at 84 Fielding Road takes donations in any daylight hour. Bin full? Ring the bell and someone with dog hair on their sweater will appear.

Big items, or a trunk full? Write to hello@homeward.example and we will meet you out front.

Three ways to give a shift.

Walkers weekday mornings & evenings

Forty-five minutes, dogs matched to your pace. The seniors stroll. Pickle does not.

Events saturdays, 10 to 3

Set the tables, hold the leashes, answer the same lovely question forty times: yes, they are all available.

Transport flexible, mileage covered

Vet runs and shelter pulls, usually under an hour each way. A calm passenger seat changes an animal's week.

Gotcha days

How this ends, when it goes right.

Otis adopted May 2026

Fourteen months on the wall, passed over as too much dog. His family drove two hours and he cleared the back seat in one jump. Their Christmas card arrives signed, somehow.

Mabel adopted January 2026

Eleven at intake, missing teeth, unimpressed by everyone. Adopted by the volunteer who cleaned her room and swore she was not a cat person. Mabel now owns the good armchair.
